Madonna criticizes Trump for comparing himself to king

66-year-old Madonna has openly criticized the 47th President of the United States Donald Trump, who has dubbed himself the "king".
On February 19, Trump announced on his social network Truth Social that he had canceled the entrance fee to Manhattan, adding the phrase "Long live the king!". This post was accompanied by an image of Trump wearing a crown, allegedly on the cover of Time magazine.
The same post also appeared on the official White House page on the X network.
"Congestion pricing is dead. Manhattan, and all of New York, is saved. Long live the king!" it said.

Madonna noted that such a statement by the politician looks absurd since the United States was founded by Europeans who sought to escape from monarchical power.
The star noted that even if it was a joke on Donald's part, she was not at all amused.
"I thought this country was built by Europeans, escaping living under the rule of a king, to establish a new world governed by the people. Currently, we have a president who calls himself 'our king'. If this is a joke, I'm not laughing," the celebrity wrote.

Mass protests against Trump's policies
Recently, massive protests have taken place in the United States caused by Donald Trump's policies. They began in February 2025 and spread to numerous cities across the country, including Boston, California, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix. The demonstrators were opposed to a number of policy initiatives, in particular, they protested against economic and social reforms initiated by Trump.
One of the main reasons for the protests was outrage over Trump's policies on migration, health care, and his decisions in international affairs.
The protesters pointed to increased social inequality, lack of support for social programs, and deteriorating conditions for certain groups, including women, minorities, and the poor.
The protesters used a variety of slogans, including "Not my president," "No kings," and "This is a coup," to express their disagreement with the government, which they believe is working in favor of the wealthy and powerful.
Particular attention was drawn to the idea that Trump and his administration could establish authoritarian methods of governance that threaten democratic processes.
The protests were also accompanied by actions against Elon Musk, who has become an important figure in Trump's political environment. His role in the government drew criticism from opponents who believed that Musk had an excessive influence on public policy, particularly in areas such as energy and technology.
