Macron to meet Trump and Zelenskyy in Paris on Thursday
French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with US President-elect Donald Trump on December 7. A meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also scheduled, France 24 reports.
According to media sources, Macron will host Trump at the Élysée Palace ahead of the reopening ceremony of Notre-Dame Cathedral. He will also meet with Zelenskyy there.
However, the meetings are currently planned as two separate one-on-one discussions. Macron's office has not confirmed whether a joint meeting involving Trump, Macron, and Zelenskyy is planned.
Earlier, the media reported on Zelenskyy's possible visit to Paris to attend the opening ceremony of the restored Notre Dame Cathedral. However, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump in Paris.
"Let this information remain in the media for now, and wait for the official level,” Tykhyi said.
This trip will mark Trump’s first international visit following his victory in the US presidential election.
The Notre-Dame fire
In April 2019, Notre Dame Cathedral suffered a large-scale fire, which was believed to be caused by a power outage. The fire raged for 14 hours, causing significant destruction. President Macron pledged at the time to restore the Cathedral within five years.
Notre-Dame de Paris, commonly known as Notre-Dame, is a Catholic cathedral in the heart of Paris and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. This is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, built in the Gothic style on the initiative of Bishop Maurice de Sully between 1163 and 1345.
