Macron slams Russian attack on Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences

France has condemned a Russian strike on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kyiv and promised to support Ukrainians for as long as it takes, according to a post by French President Emmanuel Macron on the social media platform X.
Macron emphasized that Ukraine's largest scientific institution came under attack. In his view, this attack shows the Kremlin's true attitude toward knowledge.
"These strikes are a new illustration of the hostile contempt of the Russian regime toward science and truth," the French President wrote.
The French leader placed the strike on the academy in the same category as the daily shelling from which peaceful Ukrainians suffer. He called it barbarism and expressed condolences to the victims and their families.
"France and Europe will stand by the Ukrainian people, who are resisting with courage, for as long as necessary," Macron assured.
On September 28, a Russian drone struck the building of the National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv. The number of casualties subsequently rose to two people. Among the deceased was the assistant of the former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Volodymyr Horbulin, while Volodymyr Horbulin himself sustained minor injuries.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy then reported on a rescue operation and the search for people who might have remained in the building. He also promised that Russia would face consequences for this strike.
On the same day, Russian forces attacked Kyiv with drones, damaging a gas station and an office building, and also struck the Dobrobut medical center. The following night, the capital was attacked with ballistic missiles: a non-residential building was damaged in the Solomianskyi district, and a fire broke out in Pechersk.
