Macron presses Trump to take action against Russia if it refuses peace

US President Donald Trump must impose sanctions on Russia if it proves to be "unwilling to pursue peace." This would serve as a "test of trust for the American people," states French President Emmanuel Macron, according to BFMTV.
Responding to questions about the upcoming second round of ceasefire negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, Macron called on Washington and Moscow to take responsibility.
According to him, the United States must maintain sanctions against Russia if the Kremlin confirms that it is "unwilling to pursue peace." He described this as a "test of trust for the American people."
"I spoke with President Trump 48 hours ago, and he expressed his impatience. Now the question is: what do we do about it? We (Europeans - ed.) are ready," said the French president.
Macron also emphasized that the European position on the ceasefire remains "consistent and reliable."
"We have not changed; we still believe in the international order, cooperation, open trade, and respect for the rules," he added.
Trump starts threatening Putin
Over the past weekend, Russia launched massive drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian territory for three consecutive nights. Initially, US President Donald Trump did not comment on the Russian strikes. Later, however, he said that Putin has gone crazy.
"Something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
In addition, Trump stated that the US is definitely considering imposing sanctions on Russia.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin, responding to Trump’s remarks, said that such statements were caused by the American president’s emotional overload.
Later, Trump again criticized Putin for delaying peace negotiations with Ukraine. The American leader threatened Russia with "very bad things."
"What Vladimir Putin doesn't realize is that if it weren't for me, lots of really bad things would have already happened to Russia, and I mean REALLY BAD. He's playing with fire!" he emphasized.
Moreover, a few days ago, Trump said that in two weeks, he would know whether Putin is trying to deceive him about ending the war. According to Trump, if the Russian leader lies about peace, the US will change its approach.
