Macron postpones his visit to Ukraine again
French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Ukraine is set to take place in the coming weeks, marking the third time since February that his planned trip to Kyiv has been postponed, according to Reuters.
Initially, Macron stated his intention to sign a bilateral security agreement with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February. However, this trip "was postponed with Zelenskyy eventually coming to Paris to conclude the accord".
Diplomats, quoted by Reuters, indicated that the second scheduled date was early March but was later pushed to the end of this week.
"The two heads of state agreed to remain in close contact, notably regarding the president's visit to Ukraine, which should happen in the coming weeks," said the French president after a phone call between the two leaders.
It's noted that this visit was delayed a few days after the shelling of Odesa during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
"Macron had also been due to visit Odesa," journalists report.
Two diplomatic sources informed Reuters that the French president is considering whether to expand his trip to Ukraine, including other Western leaders who would join Macron, rather than just a bilateral visit, to demonstrate unity among allies and solidarity with Ukraine.
Macron's visit to Ukraine
On March 10, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with French leader Emmanuel Macron. Among other topics, the heads of states discussed the upcoming meeting in Ukraine.
In January, Macron announced plans to visit Ukraine in February. At that time, it was reported that Macron would visit Ukraine on February 13-14. However, the visit did not take place. The security issue for the French leader was cited as the reason.
However, in mid-February, during Zelenskyy's visit to Paris, Macron once again expressed his intention to visit Ukraine. The trip was postponed to early March. Currently, it is said that the visit will take place in the coming weeks.
