Macron convenes French political leaders to discuss Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron is convening French party leaders on Thursday, February 20. They will discuss Ukraine and the threat posed by Russia to Europe, according to Le Figaro, and The Guardian.
Macron has summoned party leaders to the Elysee Palace today at 11 a.m. to meet on the situation in Ukraine and security issues in Europe.
Leaders of many political forces said they would attend the meeting with Macron.
According to The Guardian, the French president and political leaders are meeting to discuss the existential threat posed by Russia.
In the morning, the French media quoted French Prime Minister François Bayrou as saying that the risk of war has never been so high since 1945.
Macron's meeting with party leaders will take place after two meetings with European leaders this week and on the eve of his trip to Washington. According to US President Donald Trump, Macron's visit and their meeting could take place early next week, probably on Monday, February 24.
US and Europe tensions
Last week, US Special Representative Keith Kellogg said that he does not see Europe physically at the table for negotiations on Ukraine. He assured that European interests would be taken into account.
This statement caused a wave of criticism and outrage from EU countries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine should decide for itself who will be at the negotiating table.
French President Emmanuel Macron initiated an emergency summit of European leaders after Kellogg's statements. He also met with his counterparts from the EU, as well as Canada, Iceland, and Norway.
