This afternoon, the Louvre Museum in Paris was robbed. It is currently closed to visitors, according to a statement from French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati.

According to her, the robbery took place this morning as the museum was opening. There have been no reports of injuries.

"I am at the scene together with the museum staff and police units. The investigation is ongoing," she added.

According to reports, the thieves broke the museum's windows and stole Napoleon's and his wife's jewels — including a necklace, a brooch, a tiara, and other pieces.

Le Parisien reports that the criminals, who gained access to the building on the Seine embankment where renovation work is underway, "used a freight elevator to reach the exact room in the Apollo Gallery."

After breaking the windows, two men, under the supervision of an accomplice, allegedly stole nine items from the collection of Napoleon’s and the empress’s jewelry.

The museum's website currently states that it will remain closed today "for exceptional reasons." The Louvre has not provided any further details.

As a reminder, a man in Kyiv recently robbed a female soldier undergoing medical treatment.

Earlier this spring, the US Secretary of Homeland Security was robbed at a restaurant in downtown Washington.
