Weight loss without strict diets is possible. To achieve it, you only need to change one daily habit, Daily Express reports.
How to lose weight without dieting
A well-known British doctor and health advocate Dr. Michael Mosley explained that it is possible to lose weight without following a traditional diet. Although Mosley died in 2024, his advice continues to help people manage their weight and improve their well-being.
According to Mosley, many people struggle to stick to conventional diets, but there is a simple method that does not require counting calories or strict restrictions. The key is meal timing, particularly dinner.
What the method involves
Dr. Mosley recommended eating dinner earlier, ideally no later than 7:30 p.m., and avoiding late-night snacks. He admitted that due to a busy schedule, he often ate dinner after 9:00 p.m., but later consciously changed this habit and noticed positive effects on his figure.
What research shows
Mosley supported his recommendation with scientific evidence. He cited a study conducted by the University of Nottingham and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which involved 82 overweight women. Participants were divided into two groups: one group finished dinner by 7:30 p.m., and the other after 10:00 p.m.
After 12 weeks, both groups lost weight, but the results differed significantly. Women who ate earlier lost an average of 6.8 kg, while those who ate late lost about 5 kg. Additionally, the early-dinner group saw a reduction in waist circumference and improvements in cholesterol and blood fat levels.
Importantly, the difference was not related to calorie intake. Both groups consumed roughly the same number of calories.
Why late dinners are harmful
Dr. Mosley explained that eating late can disrupt the body’s biological clock and genes that regulate metabolism, increasing the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Additional research from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine showed that people who eat dinner less than an hour before sleep burn about 10% less fat overnight compared to those who stop eating three hours before bedtime.
The expert emphasized that the same food eaten late in the evening has a far worse effect on the body than if eaten earlier. This is why simply changing dinner time can be an easy but effective step toward weight loss without dieting.
