Lone special forces soldier stops Russian attack in dramatic Kupiansk standoff (video)

On the Kupiansk front, a fighter from the special unit of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) single-handedly repelled an assault by Russian forces who significantly outnumbered him. In retaliation, the enemy used banned poisonous gas, mortars, and FPV drones.
During combat operations in the Kupiansk direction, a fighter from the HUR special unit Bratstvo ("Brotherhood") held off an assault by five Russian occupiers on his own.
In response to the Ukrainian warrior's effective resistance, the occupiers resorted to banned methods of warfare — they deployed poisonous gas. Furthermore, his position came under heavy mortar fire and FPV drone attacks.
"The fighter sustained multiple shrapnel wounds and was poisoned by an unknown substance, which led to periodic loss of consciousness. Holding the position under such conditions became impossible," HUR noted.
Command made the only possible decision — to evacuate the soldier. Despite active enemy FPV drone activity, the evacuation team managed to break through to the wounded fighter, pull him out from under fire, and deliver him to a stabilization point.
"Thanks to the coordinated actions and high professionalism of the special forces, not only was the position held, but the enemy was pushed back from it," the intelligence agency added.
Frontline situation
It's worth noting that over the past day, Russian forces lost another 1,190 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. Ukrainian forces also destroyed 43 artillery systems and 154 vehicles.
As of the evening of July 16, 112 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines. Nearly one-third of all battles took place in the Pokrovsk direction.
