The Metropolitan Police said in a statement the person believed to be responsible ran away after the incident happened in Clapham. Nobody has been arrested yet.
“A man was seen fleeing the scene. We are drawing on resources from across the Met to apprehend this individual and work is ongoing to determine what has led to this awful incident,” said Detective Superintendent Alexander Castle.
The police are still investigating what the substance is. Firefighters used special tools to collect the harmful substance.
A local politician, Marina Ahmad, said the woman and children were in a car when they were attacked. “There has been a traffic collision with a man assaulting occupants in a car and throwing acid. Victims include children,” she said on X.
