Seimas Speaker Saulius Skvernelis, in an interview with LRT, stated that Lithuanian security services are warning about the threat of new sabotage operations that could destabilize the region. He emphasized that everything depends on the situation in Ukraine.

"The information provided by our security forces points to the return of a serious wave of sabotage operations, similar to those carried out in the Baltic countries, particularly in Lithuania. Currently, these cases are in court, and we all know what was planned," said Speaker Saulius Skvernelis.

He believes that the main issue in the region right now is sabotage, diversions, and provocations. At the same time, Skvernelis noted that the overall level of threat has not increased.

"If we look at the broader picture, everything directly depends on the situation in Ukraine. As long as there are no changes there, and the conventional war continues, the threat level that existed earlier has not changed for us at this time," said the Speaker of the Seimas.

Details about the Russian threat in the Baltics

The Baltic countries have repeatedly stated that Russia poses a direct military threat to them. In an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kęstutis Budrys, commented on the risk of a Russian invasion. He has no doubts about the intentions of Russian forces.

In mid-July 2024, Lithuania approved a civil defense strengthening and development program initiated by the Ministry of the Interior. It includes the creation of new shelters, warning systems, a special mobile app, and funding in the amount of 285 million euros.
