Lithuania to send 30 RBS-70 air defense missiles to Ukraine, defense minister says

Lithuania will transfer a batch of missiles for the portable air defense missile system RBS-70 to Ukraine to strengthen air defense, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said, LRT reports.

According to him, Ukraine will receive 30 missiles for the RBS-70 system.
"This is a weapon that Ukraine urgently needs, and that will help strengthen its air defense," the minister emphasized.
What other assistance Lithuania provides
Kaunas reported that during the period of the strongest frosts of January–February 2026, Lithuania already transferred 90 generators worth more than 2 million euros to Ukraine.
In addition, new deliveries of energy equipment are being prepared, in particular:
- Diesel generators;
- Transformers;
- Electric motors;
- Other equipment for the restoration of the electricity supply.
What is known about the RBS-70 system
RBS-70 is a Swedish portable short-range surface-to-air missile system produced by the company Saab Bofors Dynamics.
Among its key characteristics:
- Laser guidance of a missile, which complicates interception;
- Resistance to heat traps and electronic warfare means;
- Engagement range — up to 5–8 km;
- Target engagement altitude — up to 3–5 km;
- Crew — two persons.
The system Russian forces intermediate niche between light man-portable air defense systems such as Igla or Stinger and larger air defense systems mounted on vehicles.
Earlier, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda stated that his country is ready to support Ukraine within the framework of security guarantees. According to him, assistance provides for the participation of ground forces and air defense, as well as possible participation in naval operations.
