Lithuania recognizes over 700 Russians and Belarussians as threat to national security
Last year, the Lithuanian Department of Migration recognized 598 Belarusians and 125 Russians as a threat to the country's national security, Delfi reports.
Estimates also show that in 2024, 179 of the 598 Belarusians who pose a threat did not receive a temporary residence permit in Lithuania, and 232 did not extend the validity of this document.
The Migration Department revoked the residence permits of 175 Belarusian citizens. In addition, three Belarusians were not granted permanent residence in Lithuania, and nine were deprived of this document.
Last year, 35 out of 125 Russians were not granted temporary residence permits in Lithuania, and 36 did not extend their residence permits. Also, 24 Russian citizens were deprived of their previously obtained temporary residence permits.
For the first time, Lithuania refused to grant permanent residence permits to 16 Russians. All of these people are banned from entering the country.
Last April, the Lithuanian parliament passed a law prohibiting Russians from buying real estate. The ban was in effect until 2024 and will not apply to Russians who have been granted the right to reside in the country.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine wrote that Lithuania will disconnect power lines with Russia and Belarus. This will happen by February 2025.
