The legendary American boxer George Foreman has died. He was 76 years old, according to ESPN.
His family announced on social media that 76-year-old George Foreman, one of the greatest boxers in history, passed away on Friday.
Foreman became a sports icon with a career that spanned decades and included numerous victories, historic fights, and incredible athletic achievements.
After winning a gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games, Foreman became a two-time world heavyweight champion and a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame.
Historic fight with Muhammad Ali
One of the most famous moments of his career is the legendary Rumble in the Jungle fight with Muhammad Ali in 1974, although he lost in the eighth round by knockout. This fight became a symbol of the era and left a mark on boxing history.
After losing the title to Ali, Foreman shocked the world by announcing his retirement and taking the path of the priesthood.
However, in 1987, when he returned to boxing at the age of 38, he made an incredible sporting comeback. The most impressive moment was his triumph in 1994, when at the age of 45, Foreman became world champion again, becoming the oldest boxer to win the heavyweight title.
Foreman was also a boxing analyst for HBO, working until 2004.
Volodymyr Klitschko at one point dreamed of breaking George Foreman's record (the boxer unified the belts at the age of 46 years and 169 days) and becoming the oldest heavyweight champion.
