Russia continues to reject an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine, fearing that the West might use the pause to arm Ukrainian forces, states Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to TASS and RIA Novosti.

During his visit to Yerevan, Lavrov met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. After the talks, the official from the aggressor country claimed that the West supposedly needs a ceasefire to "quietly rearm Ukraine so it can strengthen its defensive positions."

Lavrov’s fantasies continued during a meeting with faculty and students of branches of Russian universities in Yerevan.

"Now, when they say to us, ‘Let’s have a ceasefire and then we’ll see’ — no, guys. We’ve been through these stories before, and we don’t want that anymore," Lavrov said.

He complained that the West allegedly deceived Russia in 2014 by "orchestrating a coup in Kyiv," during the Minsk agreements, and in 2022 when the Ukrainian authorities were "forbidden to sign a peace agreement."

The minister claimed that the "real intentions" of European leaders are revealed by their calls for the US to tighten sanctions against Russia.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

Russia is setting practically impossible conditions for a ceasefire with Ukraine lasting at least 30 days.

Specifically, according to Western media reports, Moscow demanded during last week’s negotiations that Ukrainian defenders withdraw from the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.

At the same time, Ukraine has already agreed to start a ceasefire without any additional conditions.
