Egils Helmanis, the mayor of the Latvian city of Ogre, was injured in a Russian attack during a humanitarian mission in Ukraine, said Patriks Grīva, a representative of the Ogre District Council, according to LMS.lv.

According to Grīva, Helmanis is currently on a trip delivering vehicles and other aid to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"Such trips have been happening regularly, even since 2022. From the very beginning of the war, a significant number of vehicles have been collected and delivered every few months. This time, it was around 20 vehicles," Grīva said.

Information about the incident and the mayor’s condition remains limited due to the confidential nature of the route. However, according to Ukrainian sources, Helmanis is in stable condition.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that in mid-June, 61-year-old US citizen Fred Grandy, a volunteer and artist from Oregon, was killed in a massive Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv.
