Production of Russian armored vehicles has begun in Kyrgyzstan at the country's first defense industry enterprise, reports the Institute for the Study of War.

The Balykchy facility is reportedly engaged in the overhaul and production of armored modifications of GAZ-66M trucks. According to sources, Russia provides some of the components for the trucks. ISW analysts note that the trucks are likely to be assembled at a Russian repair facility.

Local officials have reported that the company has already reached full production capacity. However, production volumes are kept secret.

ISW's key findings:

  • On December 15, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba published an article titled "There is a Path to Victory in Ukraine" in which he argued that Ukraine's military goals remain achievable despite increasingly pessimistic discussions in the West.
  • On the night of December 14-15, Russian troops launched a series of missile and drone strikes against Ukraine.
  • On December 15, the Finnish authorities again closed Finland's border checkpoints with Russia amid Russia's efforts to wage hybrid warfare to create an artificial migration crisis.
  • Russian troops continued their offensive operations near Kupiansk and Avdiivka, and achieved confirmed successes on several fronts.

Earlier it was reported that, according to the U.S., Kyrgyzstan helps Russia to circumvent economic sanctions. In particular, the country supplies Russians with sanctioned equipment and electronics.
