Kyiv hopes for Trump-Zelenskyy meeting at G7 summit

Ukraine's Presidential Office hopes to organize a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit, scheduled for June 15–17, said Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
According to Yermak, the recent visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the United States, led by First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko, was partly aimed at preparing for a potential Zelenskyy-Trump meeting during the G7 summit in Canada.
"Our visit was, among other things, preparation for the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Trump on the sidelines of the G7 meeting in Canada, which will take place in 10 days. It was one of the key steps in preparing that conversation," Yermak stated.
The Head of the Presidential Office also added that the Ukrainian delegation met with approximately half of the US Senate and the heads of key committees from both chambers of Congress, presenting Ukraine's position on the war and sanctions against Russia.
According to Yermak, there is "a clear understanding" of the need to support Ukraine in Congress.
Trump-Zelenskyy meeting
The last meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump took place on April 26 in the Vatican. At that time, they both arrived to participate in the farewell ceremony for Pope Francis.
The meeting lasted only 15 minutes and took place in St. Peter's Basilica before the Pope's funeral. Both leaders described it as productive.
This was Zelenskyy's first meeting with Trump after a verbal exchange that took place at the White House on February 28.
According to Zelenskyy, he and Trump discussed the signing of the minerals deal, sanctions packages against Russia, and air defense systems.
