Russian forces struck a residential high-rise in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district with a missile. People remain trapped under the rubble, states Andrii Danyk, head of Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS).

He noted that rescue teams had prepared for the attack in advance, with all emergency units moved from their permanent bases before the strike. Heavy engineering equipment is currently operating at the attack site in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, while search efforts continue for people trapped under the rubble.

"We understand that there are still people beneath the debris. Of course, we hope until the very end that someone may still be alive, but we also understand that there are definitely fatalities here. We believe there could be up to nine people under the rubble," Danyk added.

The head of the State Emergency Service also warned that Russian forces "could launch a follow-up strike," which is why rescue operations will continue without interruption. Around 600 rescuers are currently working across Kyiv.

As of today, two people are known to have been killed in the strike on the residential building in Darnytskyi district.

"One missile hit this building, but there are numerous craters here. It genuinely feels as though there was a massive missile attack, with destruction throughout the entire neighborhood," he said.

Another missile landed approximately 400 meters from the damaged high-rise and has been handed over to experts for examination.

Strike on Kyiv

On the night of July 2, Russian forces launched another large-scale attack against Ukraine. Most of the missiles and drones were directed at Kyiv.

As a result of the attack, an entrance section of a residential high-rise in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district collapsed from the first through the sixth floor.

More details about the consequences of the Russian strike can be found in RBC-Ukraine's report.
