Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia hit by explosions during ongoing Shahed drone strike

Explosions rocked Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and several other Ukrainian cities overnight on July 28 amid an ongoing attack by Shahed-type attack drones, according to the Telegram channels of Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko and Zaporizhzhia Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov.
Shortly before midnight, the mayor of Kyiv warned that air defense systems were still active in the capital.
“Stay in shelters,” the mayor urged.
Explosions were also heard in Zaporizhzhia. Governor Fedorov warned that the Shahed drones were headed toward the Shevchenkivskyi, Oleksandrivskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts.
At the same time, Ukraine’s Air Force warned that groups of attack drones were moving in several directions. As of 12:12 a.m. Kyiv time, the situation was as follows:
- A group of drones from the Sumy region was heading southwest.
- Drones in the east and central parts of the Chernihiv region were moving westward.
- A group of drones in the northern Kyiv region was headed toward the Zhytomyr region.
- Drones from the Dnipropetrovsk region were moving toward the Kirovohrad region.
- Drones from the south were heading toward the Mykolaiv region.
- A group of drones was approaching Kyiv.
- A group of drones in the eastern Kharkiv region was moving westward.
- Drones in eastern Donbas were also heading west.
The Air Force also reported that the threat of Shahed-type attack drones extends to the Rivne region.
Updated at 2:07 a.m.: Explosions were again heard in Kyiv. Air defense systems are operating on the left bank of the city.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, there is a drone threat to Rivne and Vinnytsia, as well as the Volyn region.
Updated at 2:27 a.m.: Enemy drones continue to change their flight paths. The situation currently looks as follows:
- A group in the eastern Kirovohrad region is heading west.
- In the south and north of the Vinnytsia region, drones are moving northwest.
- In the south of the Zhytomyr region, heading toward Kthe hmelnytskyi region.
Updated at 2:49 a.m.: In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, windows were shattered in a multi-story residential building due to a Russian drone strike. At least five people were injured.
Updated at 2:58 a.m.: The number of injured has risen to eight. One person is reported to be in serious condition.
Drone launch on July 27
Russia continues to attack various Ukrainian cities daily using drones, as well as guided bombs and missiles.
On the evening of July 27, Russian forces once again launched Shahed-type attack drones on Ukraine. Air raid alerts were declared in multiple regions.
In Kyiv, explosions were reported as the drone attack unfolded. Mayor Vitalii Klitschko warned that air defense systems were actively engaging enemy drones.
