Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated that a new wave of mobilization is not being considered in the country at the moment, as the current number of contract servicemen is sufficient to carry out the assigned tasks, according to Russian media.
Will there be a new mobilization?
Russia does not plan to announce additional mobilization. According to Dmitry Medvedev, the current number of contract soldiers taking part in the war against Ukraine makes it possible to do without new conscription campaigns.
He noted that there is currently no need to expand mobilization efforts, as the army is staffed by volunteers who have signed relevant contracts.
Reliance on contract service
As Medvedev emphasized, contract soldiers form the backbone of the military group involved in combat operations.
"The individuals who have signed an agreement, a contract for military service in the forces to participate in the Joint Grouping of Forces during the special military operation, are entirely sufficient to carry out all combat missions," the Russian politician assured.
How many Russians have signed contracts
He also provided statistics on the recruitment of military personnel. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 80,000 people have signed service contracts.
At the same time, according to him, over the past year, the number of signed contracts exceeded 400,000, which is significantly higher than current figures.
