Moscow unexpectedly praised US President Donald Trump following his threats about making a peace deal with Ukraine.

This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in comments to Russian state media, according to RBC-Ukraine.

"Obviously, President Trump is the leader of the world’s biggest country, the largest economy. People are also used to his rather tough and straightforward rhetoric. At the same time, he continues to confirm his intention to do everything possible to support a peaceful resolution," Peskov said.

Commenting on Trump’s recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Peskov described it as a "businesslike dialogue."

"This was a pragmatic business-like conversation between people who firmly stand their ground but are ready to listen to each other," Peskov added.

Trump’s ultimatum

On July 14, US President Donald Trump postponed plans to increase pressure on Russia. He gave Moscow 50 days to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine.

After that deadline, the US president threatened to impose secondary tariffs on countries cooperating with Russia.

The White House stated that the secondary sanctions would target countries purchasing oil from Russia, which would deal a serious blow to the Russian economy.
