The Kremlin hopes for "good relations" with Azerbaijan, according to Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov. His statement came after the detention of Azerbaijani nationals in Yekaterinburg, Interfax reports.

Peskov commented on Azerbaijan's cancellation of cultural events involving Russian participation, the cancellation of a parliamentary delegation's visit to Russia, and the summoning of a Russian diplomat to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. These moves were Azerbaijan's response to a security raid in Yekaterinburg, during which several Azerbaijani nationals were killed and dozens more detained.

"We sincerely regret these decisions. It is important to continue efforts to clarify the reasons and nature of the events that, in the view of the Azerbaijani side, prompted such actions," he said.

Peskov added that the "work of law enforcement agencies" should not be a reason for such actions on the part of Baku.

"We are interested in continuing to develop our good relations with Azerbaijan," the Kremlin press secretary said.

Raid in Yekaterinburg

On Friday, June 27, Russian security forces carried out a raid in Yekaterinburg. Following the operation, several Azerbaijani nationals who had been detained were reported dead.

Some Azerbaijani citizens also sustained serious injuries.

Today, June 30, it was reported that two officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) were detained in Baku during a special operation conducted by Azerbaijani law enforcement at the office of the Sputnik news agency.
