Russia does not want to get involved in nuclear rhetoric. Moscow is not interested in escalating the situation, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reports.

"In this case, it's obvious that American submarines are already on combat duty. This is a constant process. That's the first thing," Peskov said, commenting on US President Donald Trump's statement about sending nuclear submarines closer to Russia.

The Kremlin representative said that Moscow is not interested in escalating the situation and does not want to become a participant in such rhetorical battles.

"Overall, of course, we would prefer not to get involved in such a debate in any way and would prefer not to comment on it at all. We treat any statements related to nuclear issues with great care," Peskov added.

The Russian Presidential Spokesperson assured that his country supposedly takes a "responsible position" on matters related to nuclear weapons and non-proliferation.

"President Putin's position is well known. Russia treats the topic of nuclear non-proliferation with great seriousness. We believe that everyone must be very, very cautious with nuclear rhetoric," Peskov added.

American submarines

On August 1, Donald Trump ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed closer to Russia. This was his response to remarks by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev hinting at the use of nuclear weapons. Trump also stated that the United States is ready for nuclear war with Russia.

On August 3, journalists asked the US President whether the two nuclear submarines had indeed been positioned closer to Russia.

"I've already put out a statement, and the answer is, they (nuclear submarines - ed.) are in the region, yeah, where they have to be," Trump said.
