The appeal of the so-called Transnistrian Moldovanian Republic (PMR) to Russia for protection from Moldova was not the result the Kremlin expected, says Andrii Yusov, representative of the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

He reminds that rumors about the appeal of the PMR to Russia regarding accession were not confirmed, as previously stated by the Defense Intelligence.

"Today, considering the situation in the PMR, nothing has happened. Russia did not get the desired result. In this situation, their efforts, both political and informational, have failed," Yusov emphasizes.

The representative of the military intelligence notes that the active disinformation campaign regarding Transnistria's plans to ask Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for accession to the Russian Federation indicates that "an interested party" was involved.

"When we talk about Moldova and Ukraine, it is clear who this party is," Yusov adds.

He also mentions that Transnistrian deputies turned to European institutions. This was done "in a multi-vector style." Such action in itself is a "telling fact," according to Yusov.

Background

Earlier, information appeared in the media that Transnistrian deputies during a congress on February 28 would supposedly ask Putin for accession to Russia.

Later, the Defense Intelligence revealed that such rumors were fake.

The information from Ukrainian intelligence has been confirmed - today the PMR has asked Russia only for protection from Moldova.
