US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to the Kremlin's press service.

War settlement

According to the Kremlin, during the conversation, Putin expressed his readiness to work with the US on "possible ways of settlement, which should be comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term," and "to take into account the need to address the root causes of the crisis".

During the talks, Putin and Trump agreed to create expert groups to continue efforts to resolve the war.

Black Sea

Putin "constructively responded" to Trump's initiative concerning the security of shipping in the Black Sea. The two sides agreed to "work on specific details," though the specifics of the initiative were not clarified.

Prisoner exchange

As reported by the Kremlin, Putin informed Trump that a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia would allegedly take place tomorrow, March 19, in a 175-for-175 format.

"As a gesture of goodwill, 23 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers undergoing treatment in Russian medical institutions will be handed over," the Kremlin stated.

Other issues

Trump and Putin also discussed the situation in the Middle East and the Red Sea region. They agreed to make "joint efforts" to stabilize the situation in the region.

The Kremlin called the solidarity vote in the UN on the resolution on Russia's war against Ukraine a positive example of the “recovery” of Russian-American relations (Russia and the United States voted against the Ukrainian resolution).

The US President and the Kremlin leader considered a "wide range of areas" in which the two countries could "establish cooperation," particularly in the fields of economics and energy.

Trump and Putin agreed to organize hockey matches in the US and Russia between Russian and American players.

It should be noted that the plans for Trump and Putin to hold phone negotiations were revealed yesterday, March 17. For detailed information about the rumors surrounding the talks, see the material by RBC-Ukraine.
