Kremlin explains why Trump wants Ukraine to elect a new president

The Kremlin said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must make “very responsible and very difficult decisions” to end the war. This, it claimed, is why US President Donald Trump called for Ukraine to replace its head of state, according to Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov.
“Trump said that he believes it is time for a new president. Why? Because the president of Ukraine must make very responsible and very difficult decisions to end this war,” Peskov said.
He also added that Zelenskyy was not currently “showing the political will” to take such steps.
“Either Zelenskyy takes on that responsibility and demonstrates that political will, or he does not,” Putin’s press secretary stressed.
As previously reported, Donald Trump publicly appealed to the Ukrainian people the day before, urging them to elect a new leader to replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This came after Trump reached an agreement with Putin on Russia supplying diesel fuel to the global market, signaling a partial easing of sanctions on the aggressor.
