Kremlin resources are spreading another fake claim, alleging that "1.7 million Ukrainian servicemen have been killed or gone missing." Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation (CPD) has debunked this information, calling it absurd, the press service of the CPD reports.

Russian propaganda claimed that "hackers breached the Ukrainian General Staff database" and obtained data showing millions of losses. In reality, these figures have no basis whatsoever.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasized that Ukraine has never had a standing army of 1.7 million personnel.

As of January 2025, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian armed forces numbered around 880,000.

Moreover, Russian military losses, according to the President, are three times higher than Ukrainian losses.

According to Ukraine's General Staff data as of August 20, 2025, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost 1,072,700 personnel killed or wounded.

This completely undermines any attempts by Russian propaganda to manipulate the numbers.

The goal of such fakes is to demoralize Ukrainians, create the impression of an "exhausted" Ukrainian army, and weaken international support for Ukraine.

In the past 24 hours (August 19-20), Russian forces lost another 920 soldiers on the front. Ukrainian troops also destroyed a tank, four armored vehicles, multiple artillery systems, drones, and military vehicles of the Russian army.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that in Bakhmut in 2023, the loss ratio was at least 1 to 7 in favor of Ukraine.
