Press secretary of Russian leader Dmitry Peskov commented on a Reuters report about alleged secret training of Russian military personnel in China, stating that such reports are untrue and should be treated with caution, Reuters reports.
The Kremlin has rejected a Reuters publication claiming that around 200 Russian soldiers were allegedly receiving covert training in China.
The report suggested that some of these servicemen could later be deployed in the war against Ukraine.
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Western media often spread inaccurate information and urged people to treat such reports critically.
What the Reuters report said
According to Reuters, a Russian–Chinese agreement document from July 2025 allegedly stated that about 200 Russian military personnel were to undergo training at facilities in China, including Beijing and Nanjing.
The document also reportedly provided for similar training of Chinese military personnel in Russia.
Neither side has officially confirmed these claims.
China’s position and diplomatic context
Beijing has previously stated that it maintains a neutral stance in the Russia–Ukraine conflict, emphasizing its intention to act as a mediator in any potential peace settlement.
At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed peace-related issues during a recent meeting in China.
Against this backdrop, the issue of military cooperation between the two countries continues to attract increased attention from Western media and analysts.
According to sources, a first direct phone call in several years may take place between the presidents of the United States and Taiwan, which is expected to trigger a negative reaction from Beijing, which considers the island part of its territory.
In addition, during his visit to Beijing, the Kremlin leader reportedly sought Xi Jinping’s approval for launching the construction of a new gas pipeline. However, the talks ended without an agreement and without setting a timeline for the project.
