Two police officers wounded while detaining the attacker in Krakow have undergone surgery and are in stable condition. The shooter is in stable but very critical condition after undergoing several operations, reports Reuters, which received the information from a spokesperson for the Małopolska Provincial Police Headquarters.
After midnight on November 8, the provincial police headquarters reported that the wounded officers had undergone surgery and were in stable condition. Poland's justice minister called for people to donate blood for one of the officers.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the police officers, Jakub Kulik and Artur Moranski, as true heroes. According to him, they likely saved many lives while putting their own at risk.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stressed that the police had prevented a much higher death toll: law enforcement officers opened fire on the attacker just three minutes after receiving the first report.
The 24-year-old shooter has undergone several operations. His condition is stable but very critical. Video from the scene shows him falling after an exchange of gunfire with police officers.
At around 3 p.m. on November 7, the attacker drove into Krakow Main Market Square and opened fire on people. RBC-Ukraine previously reported on the first details of the terrorist attack. Six people were killed, and police later released information about the attacker.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted to the tragedy. November 8 and 9 have been declared days of national mourning in the country.
