Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine early in the morning on January 13th. The invaders deployed air-launched Kinzhal missiles, cruise missiles, and more. What is known about today's massive attack - read in this material.
In preparing the material, the following sources were used: the Telegram channels of the Ukrainian Air Force, the heads of regional military administrations (OVA) including Serhiy Lysak (Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration), Filip Pronin (Poltava Regional Military Administration), Dmytro Bryzhynskyi (Chernihiv City Military Administration), Viacheslav Chaus (Chernihiv Regional Military Administration), Andrii Raikovych (Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration), Oleksandr Koval (Rivne Regional Military Administration), acting Mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, Maksym Kozytskyi (Lviv Regional Military Administration), Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, Operational Command North, prosecutor's offices of Sumy region, regional Telegram channels, Facebook of police of Chernihiv region were used.
Launches of cruise missiles and Kinzhal
The Ukrainian Air Force reported missile launches from strategic aviation in the Caspian Sea region at 5:32. It is known that occupiers launched cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft. An air alert was declared across Ukraine.
Later, the Air Force also reported the takeoff of the MiG-31K fighter jet from the Savasleyka airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region, followed by the takeoff of several more MiG-31Ks. There were launches of air-launched Kinzhal ballistic missiles.
It is known that the Kinzhal missiles moved towards Dnipro, Kyiv, Rivne, and Kryvyi Rih. The cruise missiles, in turn, moved as far as the western regions.
There were also launches of Kh-31P missiles towards the Beryslavskyi district of the Kherson region.
Overall, according to monitoring groups, tonight the Russians used 6 Tu-95MS aircraft, 6 Tu-22M3 aircraft, 5 MiG-31K aircraft, Su-34/Su-35 aircraft, and launched ballistic missiles from Crimea.
Consequences of the attack
During the massive attack in many regions of Ukraine, air defense systems were activated. As a result, residents heard explosions, including:
Dnipropetrovsk region. In Dnipro, explosions were heard, and it is known that the enemy targeted the city with Kinzhal missiles. In the Kryvyi Rih district, two cruise missiles have been intercepted.
Update: Local authorities report "strikes" in Dnipro. Damages and consequences are currently being assessed.
Poltava region. In the Kremenchuk district, a missile landed in the yard of a private house. The missile did not explode, and fortunately, no one was harmed, with only damage to a utility structure.
Chernihiv region. Explosions were heard, and air defense systems were active. Authorities report damages. It is known that debris from a downed missile fell in the Bobrovytsia microdistrict in Chernihiv. Some windows were blown out in several buildings. The explosion caused the shutdown of a boiler room, but it has since been restarted. The boiler plant stopped working due to the explosion, it has already been restarted. Fortunately, there are no casualties.
Kirovohrad region. Air defense systems were active in the region, and preliminary information suggests no damage or casualties.
Rivne region: Explosions were heard due to the operation of air defense systems. There were no consequences.
Khmelnytskyi region. In the region, an aerial target was successfully intercepted. Critical infrastructure objects and residents were unharmed.
Lviv region. Rockets did not reach the region; military forces successfully intercepted aerial targets in other areas.
Sumy region. According to preliminary information, Russians targeted the city of Shostka with Kh-22 missiles. A 47-year-old woman was injured in the shelling. The blast wave damaged at least 26 buildings.
