Kim Jong Un signals full loyalty to Russia amid Ukraine

North Korea is ready to unconditionally support all of Moscow’s actions regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, states DPRK leader Kim Jong Un during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“Kim Jong Un reaffirmed the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) is ready to unconditionally support and encourage all the measures taken by the Russian leadership as regards the tackling of the root cause of the Ukrainian crisis,” the North Korean news agency KCNA was quoted as saying.
Kim met with Lavrov in the city of Wonsan on July 12. The parties agreed to continue cooperation under the partnership agreement signed in 2024.
This document, in particular, includes a clause on mutual defense between Russia and the DPRK.
North Korea’s support for Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Kim Jong Un in June 2024. Since then, both countries have strengthened their military ties.
In particular, North Korea has sent thousands of its troops to fight against Ukraine on Russia’s side.
According to media reports, North Korea plans to send up to 30,000 soldiers to the war against Ukraine in the coming months.
Earlier, during a meeting with Kim Jong Un, Lavrov stated that the participation of North Korean troops in battles in the Kursk region is evidence of the brotherly relations between Moscow and Pyongyang.
