US special envoy Keith Kellogg shared negotiation tactics on Ukraine with some European allies. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski says it instills hope, according to The Guardian.
"General Kellogg (the US envoy to Russia and Ukraine) has presented to me personally and to the circle of European allies, the United States’ negotiating tactics," said the Polish Minister.
He noted that the US's negotiation plans are "unorthodox" but "raise some hopes."
"I will not reveal them here. They raise some hopes. They are unorthodox, but we wish them luck," added the Polish foreign minister.
US does not see Europe at the negotiating table
US special envoy Keith Kellogg stated that he does not see Europe physically at the negotiating table on Ukraine. However, he emphasized that Europe's interests will be taken into account in future negotiations. Kellogg stressed that the US would act as intermediaries.
This sparked criticism from EU countries. The EU foreign ministers held an emergency meeting in Munich and announced new initiatives regarding Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron convened a summit on February 17 in Paris to discuss Europe’s position.
Commenting on Kellogg's statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine should decide who will be at the negotiating table.
