The issue is not whether Ukraine agrees to freeze the war and create a demilitarized zone but that Russia has absolutely no intention of stopping the war – and this is acknowledged in the United States, according to the Head of the Office of the President (OP) Mykhailo Podolyak.

Podolyak noted that the special representative of the head of the White House, Keith Kellogg, personally acknowledges that the Russian Federation does not wish to stop the war, which, in turn, is an extremely important component. In this regard, the question arises: who exactly is sabotaging the peace and negotiation process, and what to do next?

He added that if the West, in this case, turns away from the issue of settling the full-scale war, this will mean a voluntary nullification of global reputation, due to which some decisions will have to be made.

"Then China, for example, will behave, from a political point of view, much more, let’s say, actively... Russia must be forced, not asked, to make peace. And then those are different technologies. And again, taking into account the psychotype of Mr. Trump (Donald Trump, head of the White House – ed.), I believe that this is already not far off," Podolyak noted.

US attempts to settle the war

In recent months, the US has tried to find a path to end the war, conducting separate negotiations with Ukraine and Russia. During contact with Kyiv, the Americans proposed a complete ceasefire – and Ukraine immediately supported this idea. In contrast, Moscow began putting forward its demands. After that, Russia repeatedly talked about a so-called "ceasefire," but not once did it comply with it.

Yesterday, on May 7, the US President’s special representative on Ukraine issues, Keith Kellogg, stated that Ukraine allegedly supports Washington’s initiative to establish a demilitarized zone that Kyiv and Moscow would control.
