Justice inevitable: Zelenskyy comments on arrest warrants issued for Russian commanders
The new orders for the arrest of two Russian commanders by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prove that justice for the aggressor is inevitable, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The head of state notes that he welcomes the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for the commanders of the Russian Long-Range Aviation and the Black Sea Fleet, who are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the shelling of Ukrainian infrastructure in 2022 and 2023.
According to Zelenskyy, every Russian commander who orders strikes on civilians and infrastructure objects should know that justice will prevail and hold them accountable.
"International justice takes time, but it is inevitable. We are making every effort to ensure that no Russian beast responsible for killing Ukrainian children, women, and men goes unpunished. And no number of stars on their epaulets, no office doors will shield them from accountability," he adds.
ICC's decision
Today, March 5, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for the commander of the Russian Long-Range Aviation, Sergei Kobylyash, and the commander of the Black Sea Fleet, Viktor Sokolov.
They are accused of conducting strikes on civilian objects in Ukraine.
In particular, this relates to attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities throughout 2022 and 2023.
During that period, constant Russian strikes across the country resulted in emergency power outages.
