Jordan calls on U.S. to deploy patriot missile defense systems on its territory
Jordan has called on the United States to deploy Patriot air defense systems to strengthen its border defenses in the face of heightened regional tensions, reports Reuters.
"We asked the American side to help bolster our defence system with Patriot air defence missile systems," stated Brigadier General Mustafa Hiari, a representative of the Jordanian army.
The United States had previously deployed Patriot systems in the country since 2013, following the uprising in neighboring Syria.
Hiari also refuted claims circulating on social media that the Pentagon had used its bases to transport equipment and weapons from its stockpiles to Israel to bolster its defense after the incursion by Hamas militants.
In recent weeks, the United States has sent a significant number of military forces to the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers and support ships, and has increased troop levels in the region by thousands.
Expansion of Israel's ground operation
On October 7, Hamas terrorists launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing and abducting both military and civilian residents. In response, Israel began regularly shelling the bases of the militants in the Gaza Strip.
On October 27, Israel intensified its attacks on Gaza, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced an expansion of the ground operation.
Furthermore, the IDF reported that additional forces were sent into the Gaza Strip during the night of October 30 to continue the operation.
