Italy pledges to send another SAMP/T system to Ukraine - NATO chief

Italy has pledged to provide Ukraine with another SAMP/T air defense system, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says.
Stoltenberg explains that after Germany decided to provide an additional Patriot battery for Ukraine, Italy promised another SAMP/T.
"I expect more to be announced in the coming days and weeks," the Secretary-General says.
Aid package from Italy
This month, Italy announced a new aid package for Ukraine. In addition, Rome said it was ready to transfer another SAMP/T air defense system, but there were no corresponding announcements.

SAMP/T air defense systems are one of Ukraine's main needs, as they are capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. Before that, Ukraine had only one SAMP/T battery. It was transferred by France and Italy in 2023.
