Italy pledges €13 million to rebuild Ukraine's energy sector

The Ukrainian and Italian sides have signed an agreement on an official contribution from Rome to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund in the amount of €13 million, according to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The agreement was signed by the Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, in the presence of Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Roman Andarak, who expressed gratitude to Italy “for supporting the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector.”
“This assistance will allow us to procure essential equipment and strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system at a time when the enemy is relentlessly attacking energy facilities, while Ukrainian energy workers are working around the clock to restore damaged infrastructure so that Ukrainians have light and heat in their homes,” Andarak said.

The fund was established in April 2022 as a joint initiative of Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, and European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson. It operates under the Energy Community Secretariat.
According to the Ministry of Energy, pledged contributions from partner countries to the fund now exceed €1 billion.
Among the donors are public and private sectors from more than 30 countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as international and regional organizations.
The Ministry of Energy highlights that the fund has become an effective tool for providing international assistance in the energy sector, enabling Ukrainian energy workers to restore facilities after Russian attacks, carry out repairs, and install new capacities.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko, stated that the country has restored half of the energy capacity lost in 2024. He noted that this was achieved “primarily thanks to the Energy Support Fund,” which has accumulated over €1 billion.
It was also reported that last summer, Germany decided to make the largest contribution to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund.
