Italy may be next to sign security commitments agreement with Ukraine, media reports
Ukraine and Italy may sign an agreement on security commitments soon. Currently, several details of the bilateral agreement are missing, according to Formiche.
However, diplomatic sources do not disclose possible dates for signing the agreement.
The first meeting between Italian and Ukrainian officials to conclude the bilateral agreement took place on November 28 last year.
It is expected that the Italian agreement will be more similar to the French one than to the German one.
Security commitments for Ukraine
At the NATO Summit in Vilnius, the Group of Seven countries signed a declaration on security commitments for Ukraine, which was later joined by several dozen other countries. This declaration stipulates that the signatory country agrees to conclude a bilateral treaty with Ukraine.
The treaty covers not only military assistance but also financial and economic support, as well as the restoration of Ukraine. In addition, the agreements provide for a guarantee of assistance to Ukraine in the event of repeated Russian aggression.
The first such agreement was signed in January with the UK. This week, the documents were signed with Germany and France. In addition, presidential spokesperson Serhii Nikiforov announced the signing of commitments with two more NATO countries.
