Italy condemns Russian strike on Kherson that hit its historic embassy building

A Russian morning attack on Kherson, Ukraine, killed one and injured two people on July 25, according to the Italian Embassy in Ukraine.
This time, Russia's strike on Kherson claimed one life and left two people seriously injured.
One of the buildings hit was a historic residence that housed the Italian Embassy from 1906 to 1918.
Response by Italian ambassador
Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Carlo Formosa expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian authorities and the Ukrainian people. He reiterated Italy's official position on the aggression waged by Russia.
The diplomat stressed that Russian daily attacks are killing civilians and destroying Ukraine's cultural heritage.
"The main building was damaged and caught fire. It stands as a testament not only to the spirit of freedom at the beginning of the 20th century, but also to the long-standing friendship between Italy and Ukraine, and Italy's solidarity with this nation even before it gained independence," the ambassador said.

He also reaffirmed that Italy continues to stand with Ukraine.
"Today, we continue to stand with Ukraine in the pursuit of a just and lasting peace," Formosa added.
As previously reported, Russian forces are shelling Kherson and other settlements on the west bank of the Dnipro River on a daily basis.
On July 8, Russians carried out two drone strikes targeting a civilian vehicle and a shuttle bus in the Korabelnyi district of the city. A woman was killed, and nine other people were injured.
The following day, July 9, Russian troops struck a passenger shuttle bus in central Kherson, injuring eight civilians.
