Italy backs Russia and China's participation in peace summit, sets condition for Moscow
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani supports the inclusion of Russia and China in Ukraine's peace summit, though he emphasizes that Moscow should not demand Ukraine's capitulation, citing RAI.
The foreign minister reiterated that Italy is not at war with Russia and expressed his support for a Ukrainian peace summit, where dialogue to end the war could be pursued.
"I am in favor of a peace conference, in which, as Zelenskyy himself said, both the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China (PRC) should participate," Tajani said.
In the minister’s view, Russia should not come to the peace summit with a demand for Ukraine’s capitulation.
"However, I believe Russia should attend the conference without the position that Ukraine must either capitulate or be defeated, as that would not lead to a peace agreement," the Italian Foreign Minister added.
Ukraine's peace summit
Ukraine has put forward a peace formula for a diplomatic resolution of the war and has initiated a peace summit.
The first peace summit was held in June in Switzerland, with representatives from around 100 countries and organizations in attendance. Russia did not participate in the summit. However, Ukraine has not ruled out the presence of Russian representatives at the second peace summit.
The second peace summit could take place by the end of November.
