There are no simple solutions to ending the war in Ukraine. However, there are finally signs of hope for dialogue with Russia, stated Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, according to Rai News.

Speaking ahead of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House, Meloni said, "Today is an important day."

"After three and a half years in which Russia showed no signs of dialogue and demanded Kyiv’s capitulation, there are finally signs of hope," she noted.

The Italian Prime Minister stressed that there are no easy answers to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.

"I believe we must explore all possible solutions to ensure peace and security for our countries," Meloni added.

Trump-Zelenskyy meeting

Today, August 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is holding talks with Donald Trump at the White House, after which European leaders are expected to join them.

The parties are set to discuss in detail the terms of a peace agreement, which the US President had earlier discussed with Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, and to outline further steps toward achieving peace.

According to the BBC, US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Keith Kellogg, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles will also take part in the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting.
