Italian MFA reveals extent of aid provided to Ukraine
Italy has provided Ukraine with seven packages of military aid, and Rome plans to continue providing military support to Kyiv, according to an interview with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani.
"At present, we have provided 7 aid packages in the defense sector and intend to offer further support in this area," he said.
The minister added that Rome is in negotiations with Ukrainian counterparts, in coordination with partners and allies, regarding the terms of Italy's commitments in the field of security and long-term assistance to Ukraine.
"Italy is also actively involved in military aid within the EU. EU member states have coordinated the delivery of a large amount of military equipment to Ukraine," he stated.
Tajani emphasized that Italy will continue to assist Ukraine as much as needed, both at the bilateral and multilateral levels, in political, economic, military, and humanitarian spheres.
Military aid from Italy began with the full-scale invasion, and Rome has been consistently providing Ukraine with various packages of military assistance. Recently, Italy announced the preparation of a new package of military aid for Ukraine in May, which would be the seventh in line.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during his visit to Spain, met with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, where they discussed future assistance to Ukraine and other matters.
In October 2023, Italy expressed intentions to provide Ukraine with an eighth package of military aid, considering equipment such as anti-aircraft systems, ammunition, and counter-drone capabilities, including frequency jammers.
