Swedish defence minister Pal Jonson confirmed readiness to support Ukraine in reclaiming Crimea without geographic restrictions on the use of military assistance.
Jonson made the statement while commenting on the transfer of Tridon Mk2 systems to Ukraine, Rzeczpospolita writes.
Sweden’s defence minister confirmed support for Ukraine’s efforts to restore its territorial integrity.
On 23 February 2026, commenting on the transfer of Tridon Mk2 systems to Ukraine and €524 million in funding for long-range missiles, the minister made a clear statement on how Swedish assistance may be used.
Asked whether Ukraine could employ these long-range capabilities against targets in occupied Crimea, Pal Jonson said Sweden does not impose geographic restrictions on the use of provided assistance for the defence of Ukraine’s sovereignty, adding that if Ukraine decides to reclaim Crimea, it is its legitimate right, and Sweden will support that right with the necessary means.
The statement confirmed Sweden’s readiness to provide Ukraine with tools to defend and restore its territorial integrity, while leaving decisions on specific actions to Kyiv.
The move reflects Stockholm’s policy of strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and supporting its sovereignty over all occupied territories.
Sweden remains one of Ukraine’s largest supporters in both scale and quality of assistance.
Earlier, on 3 February, Sweden and Denmark announced joint efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system, allocating about $290 million for the purchase of Tridon air defence systems from BAE Systems Bofors.
