Israeli army conducts significant strike on Hamas and Hezbollah - IDF
The Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi, conducted an assessment of the situation in the Gaza Strip and reported on the results of the operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, report the Israel Defense Forces.
The Chief of Staff noted that in the past three weeks of fighting in the Jabalia area of the Gaza Strip, the IDF has eliminated around 1,000 terrorists and captured nearly as many, dealing a serious blow to the Hamas group.
"From this position of power, we are supporting our civilians and soldiers who are held hostage and are prepared to fight with tremendous determination, as well as pay a price to bring them home," he said.
Analyzing the situation in Lebanon, Halevi noted that soldiers from the 769th Brigade, under the command of the 91st Division, are conducting limited, localized, targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence in several villages in the southern part of the country near the Israeli border.
According to him, to date, the military has eliminated around 300 terrorist infrastructure targets, destroyed terrorists, uncovered underground infrastructure, and discovered numerous weapon and ammunition caches, including tactical combat equipment, reconnaissance documents, Kornet missiles, and RPGs.
"Additionally, in a targeted raid on a weapons storage facility on the outskirts of a village in southern Lebanon, the troops discovered a mobile missile system ready for launch, containing 24 rockets aimed at the communities of the Galilee Panhandle. The missile system was concealed in a dense forest and connected to a civilian structure," Halevi reported.
He added that the weapons were confiscated and delivered to Israel.
Situation in the Middle East
Negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip have stalled. Qatar announced the suspension of its mediation efforts for both the ceasefire and the release of hostages.
According to media reports, Qatar, on the advice of the US, ordered the closure of the Hamas office in Doha.
A few days ago, Hamas rejected Egypt's proposal to temporarily ceasefire in the enclave and release four hostages.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) destroyed launch sites from which Hezbollah militants had been firing on Israeli cities.
