Israel was not informed in advance about US President Donald Trump's statement regarding the cessation of strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, The Jerusalem Post reports.

According to the outlet's sources, Israel was stunned by Trump’s announcement that the US would stop airstrikes on the Houthis in Yemen, as the country had not been briefed beforehand about the American leader’s plans.

Trump's statement

On May 6, during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office, President Trump announced that the US would cease strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, as they had allegedly expressed a desire to stop hostilities.

"We had some very good news last night. The Houthis have announced that they don't want to fight anymore. And we will honor that, and we will stop the bombing," Trump said.

However, the US President declined to disclose the source of his information about the Houthis' intention to cease attacks in the Red Sea.

"They've said, 'Please don't bomb us anymore, and we're not going to attack your ships'," Trump said, adding that it didn't matter where he got the information.

Trump also emphasized that the United States would immediately stop bombing the Houthis.
