Over the past 48 hours, Israeli forces have attacked the majority of Syria's strategic weapons stockpiles. The operation aimed to prevent these weapons from falling into the hands of terrorist elements, reports the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Last night, Israeli Navy missile ships launched strikes on two Syrian Navy facilities: the Al-Bayda port and the Latakia port, where 15 Syrian military vessels were docked.

The operation destroyed dozens of sea-to-sea missiles with a range of 80–190 kilometers. Each missile carried a substantial explosive payload, posing a significant threat to civilian and military vessels in the area.

Additionally, manned aircraft conducted hundreds of flight hours in Syrian airspace. Together with fighter jets, they carried out over 350 airstrikes targeting a wide range of objectives, including anti-aircraft batteries, Syrian Air Force airfields, and dozens of weapons production sites in Damascus, Homs, Tartus, Latakia, and Palmyra.

"Numerous strategic weapons were neutralized, including Scud missiles, cruise missiles, surface-to-sea, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, UAVs, fighter jets, attack helicopters, radars, tanks, hangars, and more," the IDF statement said.

The Northern Command’s Fire Control Center conducted airstrikes on 130 locations in Syria, including weapons depots, military facilities, launch systems, and firing positions.

Assad's fall and IDF operations

Over the past week, the Islamic rebel group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham captured most Syrian cities, including the capital, Damascus, forcing leader Bashar al-Assad to flee the country.

Following the regime change, on December 7, the Israeli military started creating strategies to address Syrian rebel forces and reduce risks to Israel's sovereignty.

A few hours after Damascus fell to the rebels, the Israeli army crossed the border and began securing strategic locations within Syria.

On December 10, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the IDF had destroyed Syria's naval fleet.
