Israel strikes Hezbollah military targets in southern Lebanon - IDF
Militants from Hezbollah have shelled northern Israel, prompting a large-scale response from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
Following the sound of sirens at 4:52 PM, Israeli forces discovered a shell that had crossed the border from Lebanon and landed in the Upper Galilee area. No casualties have been reported.
On August 28, the IDF struck a series of Hezbollah military infrastructure sites in the area of Ain El Tineh in Lebanese territory..
Israeli soldiers also identified terrorists operating within Hezbollah's military framework in the Odaisseh area of southern Lebanon. The IDF then targeted the structure housing these terrorists.
Additionally, the IDF conducted strikes against Hezbollah observation posts in the Odaisseh and Kfar Kila areas of southern Lebanon.
The threat of a large-scale war in the Middle East
Since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, Hezbollah militants have been consistently targeting Israel from Lebanese territory, showing support for their Palestinian allies, Hamas.
On August 25, Lebanese troops launched hundreds of rockets and drones into Israel, reportedly firing more than 320 Katyusha rockets. The IDF responded with strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
The United States believes this exchange of fire poses a risk of escalating into a broader regional conflict in the Middle East.
Media reports indicate that neither Israel nor Hezbollah seems inclined to further escalate the situation.
Iran has also expressed a desire to avoid exacerbating tensions with Israel.
