Israeli military marks three weeks since the start of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip. The IDF is currently operating in the heart of Gaza City, targeting all desired facilities, according to National Security Council chairman Tzachi Hanegbi, The Times of Israel reports.

He notes that as a result of the ground operation, thousands of terrorists, including high-ranking members of the Hamas leadership, have been eliminated.

"All of the goals set by the security cabinet have been met, and as the prime minister said, ‘This is only the beginning.' We’re determined to reach the end of the battle, and the end of the battle will be the end of Hamas. We will not stop until all of Hamas’s and Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s military and leadership capabilities are eradicated," he says.

Israel's ground operation

Israel has been continuing its ground operation in the Gaza Strip for several weeks now. So far, it has taken place in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave.

The Israel Defense Forces managed to gain control of Gaza – the largest city in the Gaza Strip. They have also seized government buildings in the city, including the parliament.

The Minister of Defense of Israel, Yoav Gallant, stated that the IDF had completed the capture of the western part of the city of Gaza and was moving on to the next phase of the ground operation.
