Israel has officially expanded its military campaign in southern Lebanon and ordered local residents to leave their homes immediately. The army is preparing to act with immense force in the newly established combat zone, reports France24.
The Israeli army has declared a vast area in southern Lebanon a danger zone. The front line has now officially shifted to the Zahrani River, which flows approximately 40 kilometers from the Israeli border. The military is demanding that civilians urgently move north of this water barrier.
"We advise residents of southern Lebanon to evacuate to the north of the Zahrani River, as all areas south of the river are considered a combat zone,," an IDF spokesperson said.
The territory ordered to be evacuated covers nearly 2,000 square kilometers. Israel plans to attack Hezbollah positions there, so people are being urged to stay away from weapons storage sites and militant facilities.
France24 reports that Israel has carried out over 120 strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon in recent days. This comes despite a ceasefire agreement reached in April.
Journalists' sources in Lebanese security services report traffic jams on the roads. People are heading to the port city of Sidon, where thousands of displaced persons are already sheltering.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified his actions on security grounds. Hezbollah has been constantly shelling northern Israel, and the IDF must take further measures inside Lebanon. The goal is clear: to protect northern communities from terror. At the same time, Israel is trying to avoid strikes on Beirut, which helps keep US‑Iran diplomatic talks on track.
What else is known about the confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah
The Israeli army has recently begun actively setting up mini‑air force units. These drone warfare units will take part in operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah fighters have increasingly been using UAVs to attack Israeli soldiers and their equipment. The other day, the group reported 12 attacks on IDF military infrastructure.
Hezbollah is also trying to hit Iron Dome air defense systems. This is not the first time the group has attacked valuable anti‑missile systems with simple drones. Just two weeks ago, the militants announced a successful attack.
